This collection consists of eight letters written by Rebecca M. Bradford between 1853 and 1857 while living and working in Boston, Massachusetts; Washington, D.C., and New York and Brooklyn, New York. They document her laboring as a domestic servant, residing in boarding houses while pregnant and caring for a young infant, and travelling with a baby.

She references miscarriage and the death of one of her young siblings, symptoms of pregnancy, and boarding house owners and workers helping to assist with infant care, including at least one enslaved woman in Washington, D.C. (see April 3, 1857).

The album (14.5 x 18 cm) has brown cloth covers with “Photographs” embossed on the front. Images of note include numerous outdoor shots and studio portraits of women and children, a cyanotype of three women sitting on a set of carriage wheels captioned "I like Ruth best of all," a cyanotype of two women sitting on a dock with the inscription "Yacht. Rare. ‘Island Heights’ July 27th 1901," an African American man with a horse, and a trip to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, in the summer of 1900. Other photographs of interest include pictures of the Lewes family who were the owners of Rehoboth Beach, the Norfolk Conservatory in the City Park, an 1899 trip by four women to Mountain Island, North Carolina, La Fayette Square in Baltimore, and a picture of a young man and woman with a caption suggesting they had recently been engaged.

This collection's contents include detailed information from Cuban and Philippine revolutionaries at home and in exile; U.S. Army activities related especially to the Spanish-American War, Philippine-American War, and postwar occupations; American, Cuban, Filipino, and Spanish consular and governmental officials; and civilians (including families of U.S. Army soldiers' and sailors' family members) involved in the events.

The Rewards of merit collection consists of approximately 800 hand-illustrated and printed rewards of merit originating in the United States during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The collection includes rewards of merit decorated with ink, watercolor, and fraktur art as well as lithographic and chromolithographic rewards. The bulk of materials are dated between 1830 and 1900.

Series I of the collecton contains approximately 200 rewards of merit that are primarily grouped around specific students and teachers. Also present is a group 100 examples of early 19th century rewards acquired from dealer Alfred P. Malpa Ephemera.

The papers of Richard C. Frank, preservation architect and planner, contain paper files as well as architectural drawings and sketches from Frank's Preservation / Urban Design / Incorporated firm and from his work after leaving the firm in 1984. Major projects include Crossroads Village in Genesee County, the Detroit People Mover, Orchestra Hall of Detroit, and the Smithsonian Institution Art and Industries Building.

The Frank papers are organized into six series: Project Files, Orchestra Hall, Crossroads Village, Smithsonian Institution Arts and Industries Building, Other Files, and Visual Material. The records contain paper files as well as architectural drawings and sketches. In most instances, the container list reflects the original order of the files. If a project number was written on a file folder or tube, this number is also recorded in the container list. Additionally, the majority of the material has been kept in its original folder.

The Richard Crossley Civilian Conservation Corps photograph album contains two documents and approximately 90 snapshot views of Civilian Conservation Corps Camps in Ravenna and Broken Bow, Nebraska, as well as Fort Scott, Kansas.

The album (19 x 25.5 cm) has blue felt covers with orange felt bear skin spelling "C.C.C/Civilian Corps" sewn on to the front. Images include views of young men in uniform, a CCC camp, and an airbase, as well as photographs of a man (likely Richard Crossley at Fort Scott) dressed in full uniform and the same man holding aloft an Air Corps Technical School diploma. Also present are two documents are present including a membership card for CCC Company 2732 as well as honorable discharge papers.

This is collection of oral history interview cassettes of Richard C. “Chit” Train, transcriptions of the one and only oral history interview with Kha Nay Ung Train, a draft outline of book chapters all by Joan Shippers Memering, and a few related materials.

This is collection of mostly oral history interview cassettes of Richard C. “Chit” Train, transcriptions of the one and only oral history interview with Kha Nay Ung Train, and draft outline of book chapters all by Joan Shippers Memering. There are also a few related newspaper clippings (copies) of Cambodian refugees in mid-Michigan, including one by Memering, a cassette of This Shattered Land by Jim Laurie [and Pamela Hill, who is not listed in the credits], a documentary of the destruction of Cambodia, 1970-1979, by the Khmer Rouge Regime and the Cambodian Famine, 1979-1980. The slides are all topically related. About half the slides are from a slide presentation titled Kampuchea: it’s People, Land and Culture by Asia Resource Center, Ontario, 1980. Kampuchea was the Cambodian state, 1975-1979, under the Khmer Rouge, the Communist Party of Kampuchea. The collection is organized alphabetically, chronologically, and by format. he collection is in very good condition.

The oral history interview cassettes includes black and white cassettes. The black cassette tapes are written on in pen or marker, while white cassettes have typed labels, so the black cassettes were the initial recordings and the white cassettes appear to be a master copy as they are not edited. For most dates there are both black and white cassettes, but for some dates there are only cassettes of one color.

Besides the Trains, Joan interviewed other Cambodian refugees: Meng Leng [Phou], Heng Suy Keang, who was called Lim Son Seak, Tan Chen Fu, Ing May, and Din Leng, who are discussed in her draft book chapter. For more information about them, please see the Joan Shipers Memering Papers finding aid.

Well-known for his innovative research in archaeology, ethnobotany, and paleoethnobotany, as well as a long and distinguished teaching career and dedication to public and professional service.

The Richard I. Ford Papers document the professional and personal life of one of the country's most prominent paleoethnobotanists, curator and former director of the University of Michigan Museum of Anthropology, and longtime University of Michigan professor of Anthropology and Botany. The records in this collection measure 27 linear feet, and date from 1968 to 2005, with the majority of the records from the period 1970 to 1990. The Ford papers are primarily comprised of correspondence, legal filings and consulting materials, lectures and conference presentations, publications, committee and service records, administrative materials, teaching files, and mixed media. The records are arranged into seven series: Correspondence, Legal Consultations, Professional Service and Activities, Teaching, University of Michigan Museum of Anthropology, Audio-Visual Materials, and Research, Publications, and Projects.

Richard L. Zurel is an archaeologist who has conducted research on Native Americans in Michigan. The Richard L. Zurel papers, 1914-2011, contain materials related to his work in the field of archaeology and ethnography documenting Native American groups in Michigan. Materils include field notes, collected publications, written works by Zurel, newsletters of organizations, photographs and slides. The collection also includes materials related to Zurel family history.

The Richard L. Zurel papers, 1897-2011, contain research materials and photographs related to his archaeological work in Michigan, as well as printed materials and minutes of the Aboriginal Research Club of Detroit and of the Michigan Archaeological Society. Collection also contains Zurel family photographs depicting family members, as well as photographs and postcards depicting locations in the Upper Michigan Peninsula.
