Scope and Content:

One University Campaign records including informational handouts, presentations, flyers, and an open letter to President Mark Schlissel and the Board of Regents demanding equal resources for all University of Michigan campuses.

Biographical / Historical:

The One University Campaign (1 U Campaign) was a coalition created in 2019 to advocate for equal resources at each University of Michigan campus: Ann Arbor, Flint, and Dearborn.

The Campaign targeted three key players: U-M administration (including the President, the three campus Provosts, and the Flint and Dearborn Chancellors); the Board of Regents, which approves the school budget; and the state legislature, which approves state funding.

Forty-one cosigners drafted a letter proposing these changes: increased scholarships for disadvantaged students; DEI funding; equitable faculty and graduate student pay; expanded study abroad opportunities; coordinated admissions and transfers; and on-campus medical and legal services across all three campuses. Campaign organizers used rallies and other public forums to make their demands known. The Campaign officially ended in 2021.
