Amusement parks and carnivals photograph album, ca. 1906-1940

Volume 109, Tinder Albums [Tinder A.2.1906.2]

Collection of photographs documenting amusement parks and carnivals in Michigan housed in a three-ring binder. Of note are images of Eastwood Park in Detroit (including views of the water park, fun house, children on various rides, a small-scale train, clowns, and a fire in May of 1936 in which three people were killed), two images of Wolff's Park in Detroit, an image of a carnival in Hamtramck presented by Happy Land Shows, and images of unidentified carnivals showing Ferris wheels, merry-go-rounds, and other rides. Also present are numerous newspaper clippings that correspond to specific images as well as ephemeral items such as tickets for the Eastwood Ballroom and rides, a program for a Marathon Dance at the Eastwood Ballroom in 1930, a souvenir silhouette from 1937, and a postcard image of a couple married at Eastwood Ballroom in 1933. Includes 33 photographs, 4 pieces of ephemera, and newspaper clippings. Volume 29.5 x 26 cm.

Floyd L. Maxwell electric railways photograph album, ca. 1909-1917

Volume 110, Tinder Albums [Tinder A.2.1909]

Personal collection of Floyd L. Maxwell of Dearborn, Michigan, compiled during his employment with the Detroit, Jackson and Chicago Electric Railway housed in a three-ring binder. Contents consist of photographs of Michigan interurban railway route maps as well as images of streetcars and trolleys, towns and buildings along railway routes, railway employees posing with streetcars, and streetcar and locomotive accidents. Numerous images have handwritten captions provided by Maxwell while also present are two newspaper clippings regarding the end of electric railway service. Many of the photographs are modern copy prints. Includes 172 photographs and 2 newspaper clippings. Volume 29.5 x 26.5 cm.

Photograph album containing images related to the Kerry & Hanson Flooring Co. of Grayling, Michigan. Contents mainly consist of images that document the different stages involved in the manufacturing of wood flooring. Also present are portraits of Chief David Shoppenagon (a Saginaw Ojibwa man who was the advertising face of the company), several views of Grayling, an image of the company office, and a Kerry & Hanson Flooring Co. business card including Chief Shoppenagon's likeness. Includes 50 photographs and 1 piece of ephemera. Volume 28.5 x 39 cm.

Promotional album documenting properties belonging to the United Light and Railways Co. located in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Chattanooga, Tennessee; and La Porte, Indiana. Of note are images of properties held by subsidiary Grand Rapids, Grand Haven and Muskegon Railway Co. including depots, shops, a car barn, docks, bridges, and a power house as well as images of a machine shop interior in Fruitport, Michigan, steel bridges and interurban railway tracks on Main Street in Grand Haven, Michigan, views of Chattanooga (including the gas plant with interior shots of compressors), and powerplants and gas works in La Porte. All images have identifications. Includes 41 photographs. Volume 27 x 33.5 cm.
