In a postscript, Bernard notes that Mr. Kearney has informed him "that they have brought home 3 runaway Negroes, that were taken up in Hispaniola." Several letters detail the Spanish discovery of California, the reasons behind Spanish exploration, indigenous Californians, the establishment of the California mission system, and the reduction in population of the region’s indigenous people. Other topics include the Chichimecas, Indigenous converts to Christianity, mines in Sinaloa, and the formation of Nuevo Santander.
