The Henry Fairfield Osborn collection contains the papers of the noted biologist, paleontologist, and president of the American Museum of Natural History. This includes correspondence, both professional and personal, and two photograph albums from trips to Russia and Colorado.

The Henry Fairfield Osborn papers represent a very small portion of an originally voluminous personal and professional correspondence. They contain five letters from William Berryman Scott to Osborn, 1879-1885, 9 letters from Osborn to his wife, Loulee, dated 1925 (one n.d.), and two extensive photograph albums assembled by Osborn during trips through Central Europe and Russia (1898) and Colorado (1899).

The Scott letters are scattered, but include two important letters written in Heidelberg, 1879 and 1880, when Scott was pursuing research on the embryology of the lamprey, Petromyzon and working toward his dissertation. At the time, Osborn was traveling in England, studying with Thomas Huxley. These letters provide an all too brief glimpse into the life of an American graduate student in Germany at the high point of the German academic tradition, and provide a fascinating insight into the early development of "professional" paleontology in the United States. The other three letters from Scott were written during the field seasons of 1882 and 1885, when he was working in the Great Plains states, excavating mid-Cenozoic mammalian fossils, including discoveries of some of the classic specimens of oreodonts, creodonts and fossil rhinoceroses.

The remaining letters in the collection were written by Osborn during a vacation at Trinchera Ranch, Fort Garland, Colo., in the summer of 1925. They are newsy, personal letters with little content of general interest.

The album (32 x 24 cm) has marbled paper covers. The majority of photographs in the album consist of commercially produced images of European tourist destinations. In order of appearance the cities represented include London, Brussels, Cologne, Mainz, Frankfort, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Baden-Baden, Zurich, Lucerne, Interlochen, Berne, St. Gotthard, Chamonix, Geneva, Lausanne, Paris, Amiens, Canterbury, and Liverpool. Also present throughout the album are theater programs and tickets for a range of performances from the Royal Lyceum's King Henry the Eighth to vaudeville at the Empire Theatre of Varieties. Of additional note are tops of hotel bills and tickets from means of transportation such as the London Underground and Berner Tramway.

The album (25.5 x 18 cm) is bound in green cloth with "Photographs" stamped in gold on the front cover. Most photographs are accompanied by hand-written captions identifying people, places, activities, and dates. Images of particular interest include group portrait photographs showing Cameron with his friends and family posing on the beach, hiking, wearing baseball uniforms, interacting with pet cats and dogs, celebrating Labor Day, and engaging in a number of aquatic activities (including yachting in Bristol, Rhode Island) as well as a portrait of Cameron from his youth sitting alongside the members of the “Hope Orchestra.” Additional photographs show commencement activities and buildings at Brown University including the John Carter Brown Library and Lyman Gymnasium as well as class traditions at Wellesley College including the Alumni Game, Tree Day, and the “Ancient Greek Dance of the Huntresses above Lake Waban.”

The album (28 x 23.5 cm) has moiré fabric covers with "James S. Galloway" stamped on the front. The title page lists the photographer as J. W. Winder. The majority of images are studio portraits of members of the Class of 1860, most of which include the subjects’ signatures and hometowns. Of note is a portrait of suffragist Olympia Brown (1835-1926), the first woman to both graduate from theological school and become a full-time ordained minister. Also present is an image of the Antioch College campus, three photographs of co-educational classes, and a letter from one of Galloway's classmates describing the Class of 1860’s 50th reunion in 1910 which Galloway did not attend.

The Jane B. Hart papers include materials that document the life of Philip and Jane Hart, Philip Hart's political career, and Jane Hart's aviation and her role in the effort to include women in the space program. The collection consists of four series: Scrapbooks, Audiovisual, Personal Papers, and Inscribed Volumes.

The album (25.5 x 31.75 cm) is a "Ward's Album for Unmounted Photographs" with green cloth covers. Images of interest include views of a beachside town with palm trees in what appears to be New Jersey; the Elephantine Colossus at Coney Island, New York; a railroad likely near the Delaware Water Gap; John Bartram's House and various other buildings in Philadelphia; the railroad depot at Landsdowne, Pennsylvania; the Longfellow House and Trinity Church in Boston; as well as the interior of what appears to be a summer cabin. Also present are images of Baltimore, Maryland, including views of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary; and images from Canadian locations including the Ontario Provincial Legislation Building in Toronto as well as the Château de Ramezay and Market Day at Place Jacques-Cartier in Montreal.

Includes correspondence; various kinds of drawings, publications, and photographic material; and topical files.

The Knud Lönberg-Holm papers primarily document the professional life and career of Knud Lönberg-Holm, a Danish-American Modernist architect, designer, author, educator, and photographer known for his information design work and unique photography of vernacular architecture and various American cities. The collection also includes a small amount of material related to Lönberg-Holm's personal life, family, and death.

Material is dated from approximately 1908-1977 and includes publications, drawings, correspondence and correspondence files, a wide range photographic material, and topical files.

University of Michigan alumnus (M.P.H., 1977) and associate professor of epidemiology (1977-1988) who, as a medical officer for the World Health Organization (WHO), helped eradicate smallpox, primarily from India. Includes WHO Global Smallpox Eradication Programme correspondence, reports, photographic material, publications, and posters; and collected publications.

The Lawrence Brilliant papers documents efforts to eradicate smallpox, primarily the joint World Health Organization (WHO) and Government of India smallpox eradication campaign of 1973-1975. Material is dated from approximately 1882-2022 (majority of material found within 1972-1979) and includes correspondence, various kinds of reports and publications, photograph albums and a scrapbook, posters, and microfilm.

Researchers should note that this collection contains images of individuals, including children, suffering from smallpox.

The Liberty Bell Tour photograph album contains approximately 580 photographs depicting the journey of the Liberty Bell from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, California, and back again in 1915.

The album (40 x 28 cm) has black paper covers and 305 pages, 14 of which do not contain any photographs. The photographs are generally arranged in chronological sequence and depict loading the Liberty Bell onto parade floats and train cars, celebratory parades, gathered crowds, and individuals and groups posing with the Liberty Bell. Numerous pictures include captions referencing the locations in which they were taken. The album also contains two small maps, each showing one of the routes of the cross-county trips that the Liberty Bell took, as well as landscape photographs of scenes in the western United States. Notable persons photographed with the Liberty Bell include Thomas Edison, members of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and groups of Native Americans in Cayuse, Oregon. Landscapes pictured include views of Wyoming, Pulpit Rock, Bear River Canyon, Mount Shasta, Shasta Springs, Horseshoe Curve, Royal Gorge, the Rockies, Salt Lake, and Feather River Canyon.

The Louisiana Purchase Exposition photograph album contains 53 images that document the Louisiana Purchase Exposition held in St. Louis, Missouri, from April to December, 1904.

The album (14 x 19.5 cm) has brown faux-leather cloth covers and black paper pages. Photographs include images of different monuments and buildings (including international, state, and trade buildings), fairgrounds scenes, and various exhibitions including Filipino, Chinese, and Native American human zoo villages as well as the "Ancient Locomotives" and "U.S. Life Saving Exhibit." Also of note are two photographs of "Festival Hall at night."
