J. Leijan of Galesburg, Illinois. Includes two printed images, one of the American Emigrant Company's New York City location and the other of an Iowa farmstead. With printed, self-addressed envelope to the American Emigrant Company.

Notes the fine quality of local soil, presence of Buffalo grass, and the ability to keep "sum little blue stem cattle" over the winter with very little supplemental feed. Describes their land claim. "I think if a man has a little money to put in stock and a good team he can do well to c[ome] here but I would not advice anyone to c[ome] without sum money for it costs lots to live and very little work to make any money." Notes this is not a good place for his medical business due to good health. Remarks on accessing water, plastering houses, and digging a cellar on his claim. Encourages them to move to Colorado, noting the number of fine claims close to town and his expectation that farming will prove comparatively cheaper and easier in Colorado. Notes rising number of settlers and businesses. Written on Dr. R. Tripp Physician and Surgeon stationery.
