"State of Affairs" written by Reed to assist Drayton in writing a history of the revolution. Begins with the year 1774, when the people of Boston received Parliament's intent to "coerce them into compensation for the destruction of the Tea."

Discusses the state of Boston. Believes the militia of Massachusetts and other New England provinces will be ready by Spring. The militiamen are told to be ready to "march at a Minutes Warning." Comments on Western expansion and settlers, disdain for the Quebec Act, politics and Continental Congress, and charters of colonies.

Censure of Loyalist John Williams, who insinuated that sending a delegate to the Provential Congress was treason. "[A]ll Commercial Connection" will be withdrawn from him, which is in accordance with the advice of the Continental Congress.

Describes his life in Quebec and a Native American ceremony and traditional dress. He is not well acquainted with the Indians but has seen them dance and perform a ceremony before the governor [Guy Carleton] and mentions yelling, scalping, and mutilating.

Notes army movement and asks for a joint meeting of the committees at Faneuil Hall to "determine upon measures of safety."

Letter from Commissary General to Gerry, "or in his absence to one other of the Com[mit]tee of Supplys." Looking for Captain Foster to "procure the list of military stores" and expects Gerry's powder to be in his store shortly, "the small arms are extreemly called for." Notes shortages of supplies, including clothing, writing materials, rum, lemons. Engineers in need of a bed for the mortar. Wants cash to purchase "a few small articles for the army." Encountered Foster and is enclosing his list of stores [not included]. Note on verso mentions the need for cattle to be slaughtered for the camp.

Describes the confusion of Continental Army at Boston after the battle of Bunker Hill. Is assured that all rumors of his death have been dispelled, especially to Mrs. Chester.
