Unable to comment much on “our giving away Lands out of the shares of the Proprietors at large,” but assures Turner they are working to add value to the land. Will work on matters relating to General [James Mitchell] Varnum’s (1748-1789) estate using his Power of Attorney. Mentions the Order of Cincinnati and his efforts to prove Rhode Island appointed him Pay Master for Colonel [Christopher] Greene’s (1737-1781) Regiment. Awaiting news from a recent “expedition carried into the Indian Country our Army marched Thirty five days from Myamma Twenty five Hundred Stronge for their Towns upon the Head Waters of that River.” Notes Native Americans’ numbers and lack of provisions. “…I am anxious for the event as it will exceedingly effect our Settlements in the Western Teritory.” Mentions production and profitability of corn.
