Includes payments while sick at Long Island, York Island, East Chester, Bedford, and Sharon. With one additional expense for a cartridge box, "Lost in the Retreat."

Charges against the loyalist Chace. He has been "inimically disposed" and represents a danger to public peace and safety. Includes warrant and indictment against him. The verdict states that his further presence in Massachusetts is dangerous to the state.

Provision return from Quartermaster Gordon. "Provision Return of Capt Nickels and Capt Whites Companys."

Request for a new gun to be made as his current one is rusty. He doesn't have anything worth communicating but remains alert in hearing from the enemy.

Misrepresentations of his treatment as prisoner of the British have resulted in British soldiers like Col. Campbell to be closely confined and in other ways poorly dealt with. Affirms that William Howe has treated him with respect all along and hopes that when the recipient reads the letter that Campbell and the others will be placed in conditions reflective of their rank.

Authorizes Lawrence, Treasurer, to pay Captain David Holmes for the "Purchase and Premium" of 335 lbs. of saltpeter. Signed on verso by Shubail Child, acknowledging receipt of payment. Audited in September 1777 by [?] Pitkin. Accompanied by printed portrait of Oliver Ellsworth, engraved by E. Mackenzie "from a Painting by J. Herring."
