The Events sub sub-series continues from earlier accessions and consists of files on the Dalai Lama's 2008 visit to the university to give the annual Peter M. Wege Lecture on Sustainability as part of Earth Day activities, as well as materials relating to the 50th anniversary of the Salk polio vaccine in 2005. Files on the Dalai Lama's visit include planning group correspondence and agendas, communications and press releases, and administrative materials on event budget, venue preparation, and security measures. Also documented here is opposition to the university's invitation to the Dalai Lama to give the lecture, including a letter from the Chinese Consul General in Chicago. Materials on the 50th anniversary of the Salk polio vaccine include news articles commemorating discovery of the vaccine, scripts for the anniversary dinner, and agendas, correspondence, notes, and background information from the planning committee.
