Report of Employees in the Red Cloud Indian Agency for the 2nd Quarter, 1877. Lists names of employees, their office, place from whence appointed, place where born, their commencement of service, date of resignation or discharge, where employed, tribes for which employed, compensation, and other remarks. Offices include a clerk, blacksmiths, a carpenter, herders, laborers and laborers acting as interpreters, master of transportation, a storekeeper, and physicians. Places where employees were born include Ohio, Ireland, France, Missouri, Indiana, England, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Austria, Colorado, Louisiana, Norway, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nebraska. "Tribes for which Employed" is recorded as "Sioux-Cheyennes and Arapahoes" for all employees.

Discusses writing about the history of the U.S. government's dealings with Native Americans, from the point of view of a Cherokee who lives with white people; "I am fully aware that there is a vast field of facts constituting a legitimate branch of American history, which American historians studiously avoid...I mean the 'dealings' of the white people and the U.S. Govt. with the American Indians."

"Invoice of Indian Stores pertaining to Spotted Tail Indian Agency transferred this 30th day of June 1878, by 1st Lieut. J. M. Lee 9th Infantry Acting Indian Agent to 1st Lieut. C. A. Johnson 14th Infantry at Old Spotted Tail Agency Nebraska." Lists the items, their quantity, and condition. Items include tools, supplies, lumber, machines, and buildings, such as a storehouse, stable, slaughter house, school house, dwellings, and large log house. Items indicate work relating to construction, carpentry, agriculture and livestock, plumbing or water distribution, and more. Conditions range from serviceable, unserviceable, worn, old, broken, and common.

Account of her son-in-law being treated by a Native American doctor for an injury; "he is like most … he failes as often as he cures he has helped our son-in-law he was hit by A limb of A tree across the shoulders..." Provides information on farming and food.

Letter from an Indian Agent regarding Miss Florence Roger, a children’s teacher for the Modoc Day School in Harper, Kansas. Miss Rogers’ work is applauded, and the author states that she has won the esteem of both the children she teaches and their parents. Two envelopes are kept with the letter, both from the Department of the Interior, Quapaw Indian Agency. One envelope specifies that it can only be used for correspondence between Executive Departments and officers of the United States.

Account of a year at Moosonee Mission, ministering to Cree, Ojibwa and Eskimo, "during which God was pleased to lay upon us very great affliction, teaching us most forcibly the truth of Scripture … "
