The Speeches series, the bulk of the collection, includes speeches from 1975 to 2007. The topics of the speeches range from economic forecasts, state of the county addresses, charity events, economic development, patriotic events, and so on. They reflect the wide variety of issues Patterson has faced while in office.

The Press series includes photocopies of articles by and about Patterson; newspaper opinion pieces or letters to the editor of the Oakland Press and the two Detroit newspapers; and press releases from the Oakland County Executive's office.
