Academy, 1940-1976
"Alumni" (1), 1940-1976, begins with directories and lists of distinguished graduates, but most of it relates to Alumni surveys, 1940-1942, and attempts to form alumni organizations, beginning in 1941 through the mid 1970's. The surveys were done to involve graduates, particularly in recruiting students and funding scholarships. The surveys for 1940 and 1942 are virtually complete except for the "A" section of the alphabet, where only scattered returns survive. They give good information about the respondents, some of whom became quite distinguished in their fields.
At the time of the surveys, an attempt was made to establish alumni clubs, and periodically thereafter, similar efforts were made, largely in conjunction with fund raising, but it was not until the mid 1960's that the present Alumni Association was formed. Notes, minutes, and other materials document its planning, organization, and work. For more recent activities, researchers should consult the Sheryl Szady segment of the Post-Maddy Administrators series.
