Financial

The "Financial" files (4), 1928-1988, have a Maddy era, 1928-1965, and later, 1966-1988, component. The earlier consists largely of detailed papers and records, mainly analyses and reports on all aspects of operations prepared by the Bookkeeper-Assistant Treasurer-Treasurer (Marie Maddy until 1937, George G. Mackmiller until 1962, and Clare D. Burns thereafter) for use by Joseph Maddy. Some correspondence with Maddy and Tremaine is also included. The Tremaine correspondence in Chronological Camp files, 1935-1966, provides a good overview of financial developments in this era. The later portion, 1966-1988, contains largely bound reports prepared for general administrative use. They should prove especially valuable in conjunction with the Boards Trustees series.

"Fund Raising/Development" (5), 1928-1978 (with some later promotional materials), details efforts to secure financing for facilities and scholarships. It includes correspondence, reports, prospectuses, and promotional materials covering the sale of debentures and the gift of buildings and scholarships. Appeals to alumni, parents, foundations, and the Traverse City business community are covered, encompassing efforts by professional fund raisers, agents, Interlochen personnel and friends.

Researchers will also want to consult in this sub-subseries: "Alumni" (1) and "Publicity/Promotion" (13) as well as: "Campus" (3) for donations of facilities and art works and "Organizations" (11) for gifts of scholarships and buildings. In addition, they will want to check Post-Maddy Administrators Donald Gillis and Karl Haas under "Fund Raising" and Roger Jacobi under "Development" as well as the Boards series, and the correspondents index for S. S. Kresge and Clement Stone.
