Contents consist of studio portraits of men and women, many of whom are identified through handwritten captions. Identified individuals include other members of the 12th MI Infantry such as Stephen J. Weaver, Robert A. Walton, Spencer Gunn, James Adams, Eli C. Spencer, William H. Graves, Dwight May, and Theo F. Washburn. Includes 16 cartes de visite, 2 tintypes, and printed biographical entries for several subjects. Volume 9.5 x 13 cm.

Most images are identified with handwritten inscriptions made to the album's original owner while David V. Tinder has also provided biographical annotations for several students. Photograph album related to the Darling-Maynard family of Michigan. Consists of studio portraits of men (including some in military uniforms), women, couples, infants, and children. Also present are photographic reproductions of prints illustrating the battle of the ironclads between the Monitor and Merrimac as well as Abraham Lincoln, a tintype of a cat, and one view of a dry goods storefront. A non-contemporary handwritten list in the front of the album identifies subjects as well as most photographers while a contemporary partial index is also inscribed. The album also contains a music box in the back that is initiated by a lever attached to the metal clasp closure.
