Editing Materials

The Editing Materials series contains materials that pertain to his work as an editor-publisher. There are three sub-series: Webpage, Nada Press, and Edited by Cope.

The Webpage subseries includes documents, correspondence, and drafts relating to establishing David Cope's website and his assistance with creating webpages for other poets.

Nada Press is the largest subseries in the Editing Materials series. Chief among Nada Press publications is Big Scream , an annual literary magazine. (Early editions were published semiannually.) Representing Big Scream here are original manuscript submissions (called here "Originals"), usually with attached correspondence, proof copies, and published editions of the magazine. Among the authors featured over the years have been James Ruggia, Bob Rixon, Eileen Myles, Eliot Katz, Joanne Kyger, Allen Ginsberg, and Anne Waldman. It should be noted that issue 25 of Big Scream was published separately as Nada Poems , in commemoration of the fifteenth anniversary of the press. Another significant publication of Nada Press is Sunflowers and Locomotives , a memorial tribute to Allen Ginsberg. The Sunflowers and Locomotives files contain original manuscripts and correspondence from contributors. A published edition of Sunflowers and Locomotives is available as a separately cataloged item.

Also in this subseries is the work co-edited by David Cope and Jim Cohn, Demotic Fire: the Postbeat Poets, an unpublished anthology devoted to poems from poets who carried on some of the traditions and methods of the Beat generation. The Demotic Fire files consist of poems from contributors, as well as correspondence that documents the planning of the project and efforts to publish the anthology.

The final subseries contains materials edited by Cope over the course of his career. These include drafts, manuscripts, and relating correspondence from other poets and Cope's students.
