19 8bre 1803 [October 19, 1803]-27 Vendémiaire an 12 [October 20, 1803]. Manuscript copy of a letter to M. Gosselin at Le Havre. Announced his arrival in his letter of 8 Fructidor an 11. Praising himself for getting out of Port au Prince and avoiding capture by the English. Advantageous sales but is losing money on account of damaged property. Had to leave goods at Port au Prince in the care of "Mr. Meade jeune, Négr. américain" because of the situation. Concerned about the food sent by M. Marliani, thinking that it May have been taken. Many of the ships evacuating Port au Prince were captured by the English, "qui se sont emparés des débris de la fortune des malheureux colons qui fuiaient [fuyaient] d’une terre encore fumante su sang des français!"
