1804 Janvier 2 [January 2, 1804]. Manuscript copy of a letter to Prévost at "Jamaïque." Heard captain Prévost had been captured during the evacuation of Capetown and that he'd been taken to Jamaica. Believes foodstuffs on the Union were requisitioned by the army and that payments on the merchandise had been made. Please send details and especially on those related to the coffee on board the Union. Not going to reflect on the loss of St. Domingue; would have to go far back to find the causes that resulted in such disastrous effects.
